This is a service industry thanks night to all. 3 bands for you to enjoy.

A word from Alex.  “This is my first release from my debut EP, Century Sessions! It was produced by the amazing Noel Golden of Whitestone Studios and featured some amazing friends/musicians! Zach Young stepped in on lead guitar, Sarah Schaffer on Cello, Moses Andrews on the Organ and Trey Lundquist on Drums!  It was an amazing time and I can’t wait to release the EP.” Some of Alex’s sounds and influences are Amos Lee, Dave Matthews, Ray Lamontagne, Sublime, Jack Johnson, and The Avett Brothers. Listen here. The Antibodies

Piedmont String Benders

The Piedmont String Benders is an “Almost Acoustic” trio. The group offers a mixed bag of “B Side” cover tunes with unique arrangements. Most of the members of the group have enjoyed and been a part of the Spartanburg Music Scene for many years.

We enjoy using a variety of instruments including steel string acoustics, nylon guitars, dobros and the occasional romp with a telecaster through a tweed tube amp. Our percussion compliments the acoustic format Mike Miller keeping time on a djembe along with bongos and shakers.

A Word from the Antibodies. We are a no-frills quartet. We are what you hear — the music, with many influences. The lyrics are thoughtful and sometimes quirky. From the touch of bluegrass in ABDUCTED to the grunge of DON’T BE QUIET to the beauty of JIMI. We’ve never been overly worried if you liked the music or not because if we didn’t like it, how could we put it out there? We enjoy performing live with energy, humor, theater and activism. Hope you’ll give the songs a listen.

She has worked nonstop ever since in theatres and clubs around the country. Karen’s comedy style invites the audience to sit in the front porch swing and laugh with her while she talks about family, parenting, marriage and life in general. She can be heard on Sirius XM Radio as well as every week on the Coast Morning Show. This fall Karen will appear on the NickMom Comedy Special as well as on Lifetime and USA networks. She is the only comedian to be featured by Nestlé and Zyrtec in their national campaigns. She recently won the Improv Comedy Club’s national comedy competition at Harrah’s in Las Vegas. July/26th/9pm/$5 Wayne Graham from KY, Folk/Rock/Alternative

Click for Reverb profile

Not a usual Thursday night thing but when a band like this calls and says “Hey, We’re coming through on tour and would like to be featured at COM”, well we have to make it happen.  With influences like Wilco, My Morning Jacket, Fleet Foxes, Wayne Graham is a five piece folk rock band made up of five musicians that love writing and playing music that moves you. We reside in southeast Kentucky, smack dab in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains. Our music is about family, when you take a listen you become part of the story, because we sing about the joys and trials that every family faces.  Though Wayne Graham has only been alive for a short time, its members are in no way inexperienced. All five members of Wayne Graham have been involved with at least one other band in the past. Together, we have played hundreds of shows, written hundreds of songs, and encountered countless obstacles.

July/27th/9PM/$10 The Reverend Billy C. Wirtz, Up from Cocoa Beach FL for round 2

by on Jun.17, 2012, under Comedy show, Live Music, Theatrical experience

This is the 2nd time the Reverend has been here.  Seems this is going to be a regular stop on his way up from Cocoa Beach to the biggests music festival on the east coast “Bele Chere”.  Reverend Billy C. Wirtz is a recording artist whose material consists of irreverent comedy routines set to music. His humor is somewhat raunchy, if not offensive, and thus is not normally considered suitable for children. His material often mocks conservative politics and religion. From the moment he sits down at the piano and lights into his Southern old-time gospel and blues with a twist, the six-foot-five-inch, goateed, tattooed tongue-in-cheek “Rev” commands the stage and spreads the “gospel” like nobody’s business. With puns flying as fast as his fingers, the Rev plays masterly boogie-woogie and barrelhouse riffs while holding forth on subjects as diverse as W.W.E.D.? (What Would Elvis Do?), Mennonite Surf Parties, and dubious relationships between people you are terrified that you may actually know.  While widely recognized as a humorist, music is his forte. In the early 80s, he shared a walk-up with the late blues legend Sunnyland Slim, learning to appreciate the Blues and to perform it with fervor. A recognized musicologist, Billy has written about music, legendary performers and life on the road for Musician, Keyboard and BluesWax. He is a regular contributor to the Charlotte Observer. Workshops on Blues and/or Gospel Music at festivals and universities have left students clamoring for more.

Read the Reverend’s article he wrote for the Charlotte Observer,

And after all these years, I am playing “Last Date,” on a stage, where Hank Williams, Jimmy Rodgers, Ernest Tubb and countless others, the famous and not-so-famous, have preceded me.

I am at the legendary Capri on Main, in Gaffney, S.C.

Special trivia night during this Tuesday’s Open Mic night with a chance to win tickets to Bombadil show coming this Thursday night at 8pm

by on Jun.08, 2012, under Live Music, Trivia

Come out this Tuesday Sept/11 for a special trivia night starting at 8:00 along with our every Tuesday Open Mic to test your knowledge against others and a chance to win tickets to Thursday nights show with Bombadil. This band is from the same record label as Avett Bros making their way through here.

What would rock ‘n’ roll sound like if someone poked fun at it? It would sound like Bombadil, four genteel rock nerds from Durham, NC. Part blues rock, part folk, part who-knows-what, Bombadil sees the value in the nuance and the humor in the awkward moment, tackling music with an enthusiasm kind of like kids with their first instruments.
