History
The Capri Theatre opened in 1936 and operated as a movie theatre for 72 years. Clyde and Mary Hudson have owned and operated the movie theatre since 1969. In 2008, operations as just a movie theatre transitioned into more live music and improve shows creating Capri On Main. The Capri Theatre has been featured in state magazines, local newspapers, and theatre enthusiast websites. Check the links below for these articles. Single-screen movie theatres are difficult at best to find today. Over the past ten years, the Capri Theatre has been hosting music shows and other live events for the community allowing the stage to be used. The Capri Theatre closed for renovations to become and join other live venues in the upstate. The Capri Theatre reopened in 2009 as Capri on Main with the first phase of the plan completed. Capri on Main will be hosting live music events, movie documentaries, trivia nights, private events, and serving as an alternate location for city functions.
