Welcome to the Historic Capri Theatre, Est. 1936

Featured Artists Open Mic list

The Capri Open Mic features artist often. Independent touring artists from all over the country stop by to facilitate the evening, meet local performers, and share their passion for music. Come out, play some tunes, have a drink, hear new music, meet great people, and support independent music! This is an acoustic/songwriter setting. We limit the amount of full bands to 1 due to slots for solo musicians to play and to cut down the downtime in-between.  If you plan to bring a full band we need to schedule this ahead of time. Use #capriopenmic to join the conversation and learn more about our featured artists!

This is a instrumental/singer/songwriter session, sorry no Karaoke or sing along CD’s.

Every Tuesday, 7:30pm-11
Sign ups start at 7:30pm

AUGUST 25TH FEATURED ARTIST ELLE CARPENTER

ElleHaving grown up largely in the New England folk/world music scene, Elle Carpenter is proud to announce the release of her first folk/americana album “Life Just Happens To You”.

Combining Carpenter’s folk upbringing with her later pop-rock experience, the goal of this compilation is to bring home the live acoustic sound that listeners love so much, while incorporating Carpenter’s favorite unplugged instruments (acoustic guitar, fiddle, mandolin, & upright bass).  The songs on this record were chosen very carefully, mostly from the original library of songs written by Elle Carpenter.  As described by Carpenter, these songs are “a picture I wanted to paint about day to day life as we know and believe it to be.  Not just a moment.  The whole lifespan of the painting.”

Elle Carpenter, a child singer & actor from Plainfield, Vermont has recently re-located from Los Angeles, CA to Durango, CO and is excited to travel to over 30 states this year, for the first time, with a folk record in hand. Having grown up touring and singing folk music with her family & being an active participant in the central Vermont theatre scene-then performing/recording in Los Angeles with a full rock band, & appearing as an actor on popular TV shows such as Conan O’Brien, House M.D., & Grey’s Anatomy-Carpenter recently found her own as a solo artist.  Full bio, schedule of shows, and album credits located at www.ellecarpenter.com

Sept 29th Sofia Talvik, International Sweden Star, US tour

Rising star from Sweden. Sofia has emerged like a lady of the forest, bringing a new interesting side to folk music. She’s playing a unique blend of folk-pop (someone said Neo-Folk). This American genre filtered through her Swedish heritage, becomes something totally unique, a blend that has attracted attention from American reviewers, blogs and music lovers, allowing her tour the US several times. In 2008, she became the first Swedish female singer to play the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago.

Sofia Talvik was born on an island just off the west coast of Sweden. At the tender age of eighteen she left behind the comfort of home for the bright lights and lonely nights of Stockholm where every experience, good and bad, would soon take the form of a beautiful, funny or heartbreaking story destined to capture the hearts and minds of all who would hear the words when set to Sofia’s gentle, melodic acoustic guitar and minimalist back up of cellos, double bass and soft percussion.

Sofia’s debut album Blue Moon was released in 2005 to much critical acclaim followed by Street of Dreams in 2007 which features a duet with indie pop icon Bernard Butler from British band Suede, released on her then newly formed record label Makaki Music. Continuing a steady pace of releasing albums Sofia released her album Jonestown, named after the tragic 1978 event in Jonestown, Gyuana, 2008, and was the first Swedish female artist to play the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, that same year.

US indie distributer CD Baby wrote “It’s not often that an album takes your breath away, and I hate to sound hyperbolic, but “Florida” actually has several “Oh my god!” moments of sheer beauty.” about Sofia Talvik’s 2010 release Florida, and album inspired by spending a few hot summer months in Florida in 2009.

From alexhunnicutt.com: More and more people are taking notice of Greenville, SC Singer-Songwriter Alex Hunnicutt who’s been building up an impressive stack of original tunes since his start in 2009. Hunnicutt claims to still be in the early stages of his career but that hasn’t stopped him from performing at a few festivals and countless live shows with bands like The Marshall Tucker band, Aaron Tippin, NOAH, Jacob Johnson, Sam Burchfield, and many more.

JAN 13th Laney Jones and the Lively Spirits

Steeped in the traditions of folk, jazz and rock and roll, Laney Jones mixes a musical cocktail with a vintage flavor that’s all her own. Honing her craft and effortlessly welcoming stage presence in coffeehouses, speakeasies, and concert venues across the United States, this scrappy Americana singer-songwriter is making a name for herself as a fresh, lyrically creative artist. Her distinctive voice has been described as “a mix of lemon, molasses, gin and gunpowder*,” mellifluous and smooth but brimming with passion.

Since releasing her first studio album “Golden Road” in 2013, the Florida native now turns heads in Boston, Massachusetts while attending Berklee College of Music on scholarships for songwriting and bluegrass studies. In addition to juggling the responsibilities of a college student, Laney has been touring up and down the East Coast, appearing as an emerging artist at music festivals such as Falcon Ridge Folk and Grey Fox Bluegrass. In autumn of 2013, Laney received the prestigious honor of representing Berklee at the Kennedy Center’s American Voices festival where she performed a moving rendition of her original song “Broken Hearts” at a masterclass with the legendary Alison Krauss. June 6th  Featured Artists Will Sheehan “Off the wall”

Leo Liebeskind (b. August 1, 1993) is a twenty-year-old singer-songwriter from New York City. A classically trained musician, Liebeskind is a multi-instrumentalist, proficient at guitar, piano, harmonica, and bass, and has been writing and singing original music since the age of twelve.

Leo has played dozens of solo acoustic shows at coffee shops, bars, and other music venues around New York City, including the Living Room, the National Underground, and the Bitter End. Liebeskind has also played numerous shows at venues around Oberlin, Ohio, where he has been attending Oberlin College since graduating from Hunter High School in 2011. He has also performed at various events in southern Westchester County, New York, including the 2010 and 2011 Take Me To The River Music and Arts Festival and appearing as the opening act at a benefit concert featuring Pete Seeger in Dobbs Ferry, NY.

In the fall of 2012, Liebeskind started “The Tour on Poverty,” a project founded out of a desire to perform music while simultaneously helping those in need and attempting to build a better country for us all. Liebeskind toured the United States with his friend and musical partner, Jordan Golding, making 13 stops and raising nearly $1300 for community organizations across the country.

Leo has recorded three solo albums of original material, Constantine’s Revolt (2006), You Can Still Be Free (2009), and Leo Liebeskind EP (2011). He has been working on new music with Booga Basement Productions, a recording company and production team based in Bloomfield, New Jersey, while simultaneously working on recordings on his own.

Music: Liebeskind relies on his poised, precise guitar playing, rich, textured vocals, and imaginative, poetic lyrics to create a blend of soulful blues, folk, country, and rock music. Influenced by the likes of Woody Guthrie, Mississippi John Hurt, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Lucinda Williams, and The Rolling Stones, among many others, his style ranges from standard folk music to acoustic blues to psychedelic rock, but always manages to display a deep understanding of and connection to traditional American roots music. Lyrically, Liebeskind has always been enamored by Dylan, and also draws on the work of American poets such as Allen Ginsberg, Claude McKay and Langston Hughes.  Through his lyrics, Liebeskind hopes to connect the political with the emotional in his impassioned acoustic roots rock music.

Little Ugly, the offspring of chief songwriter/singer/acoustic guitarist Michael Day and his collaboration with percussionist Nick Dickinson, and violinist/vocalist Kaia Pazdersky, is a band that authentically thrives in its defiance of classification. The mix of imaginative, introspective lyrics and classically trained musicianship has created arrangements that are connected with the eclectic works of artists such as Mumford & Sons, The Decemberists, Silverchair and Ray LaMontagne- yet they imitate no one. Delightfully unconventional at every melodious interchange, these three musicians have born a live experience that is a valuable reminder of how music can elevate, captivate, and broaden our minds, as well as move our feet.

Apr 22nd

This show will be rescheduled. Lacy will be making her tour through the upstate with her country roots. Here is a word from Lacy. “My bio is pretty short. I love making music and I love making friends. Along the way I realized that the first has often led to the second and I think that’s a pretty good reason to keep doing it.”  READ MORE HERE http://www.lacygreen.com/about
