Posted on Jan.29, 2015

gp header 6-09Greg PopeGreg Pope is a Nashville based power pop artist whom you may or may not have heard on the radio, though his songs have likely made it into your living room via TV shows like America’s Next Top Model and Last Comic Standing. In power pop circles he is perhaps best known for his 2008 release “Popmonster” which landed him in the top ten lists of most of the sought-after web sites and blogs of the day. Since then he has released six solo albums including his most recent “Fanboy” earning him titles such as “A one-man thermonuclear bomb” (popgeekheaven. com) and “The Pope of Powerpop” (AbsolutePowerpop.com). Prior to his solo endeavors it was Pope’s Nashville based power pop trio Edmund’s Crown that caught the attention of television, with Dawson’s Creek and NBC’s Providence featuring the band’s songs on multiple episodes.
Pope’s live act, The Popmonsters, includes session drummer and former Edmund’s Crown member David Sprouse, bass player and back up singer Jon Putnam, and Pope’s seventeen year old son Asher on rhythm guitar and back up vocals. The band covers Pope’s solo releases and his Edmund’s Crown  material with surprise doses of The Who, ELO, Big Star and The Beatles thrown in for good measure.
“I believe this: Greg Pope is one of the most important artists on the power pop scene. His work with  Edmund’s Crown was worthy of any pop fan’s  ardour. His solo work is a whole different plane of accomplishment and consistently jaw-droppingly  astonishing.” Excerpt from the book Power Pop Prime, Vol 9 by Bruce Brodeen

The members consist of Drew Spencer- Vocals & Guitar, Marco Taveras- Piano & Vocals, Dalton Guest- Drums & Vocals, Tripp Hammett- Bass, and Matt Neely- Guitar. Oct/6th Tuesday night Featured Artist ‘Ned and the dirt” BACKYARD INDIE ROCK

Posted on Jan.26, 2015

ned“When you throw one southerner and two north-easterners into a blender and then pour them out in Los Angeles you get Ned and the Dirt’s unique brand of Backyard Indie-Rock. Ned’s southern roots can be found in his preacher’s tongue and garage-party swagger, but it’s The Dirt’s northern grit that gives their music a grip on your ears. Their live performances drip with honesty (and sweat) so go get up close if you’re ready to feel. But don’t worry, you won’t be alone. You’ll be having those feelings with everyone in the crowd, and then you’ll leave that night being a more enriched person because you accidentally connected with so many other people. Don’t just buy it because I’m telling you this, though. Go see Ned and the Dirt for yourself.”
