May 20th after Pickin at the Cabin, Fayssoux and Company- w/ Brandon Turner, Franklin Wilkie, and Scott Stinson.

Posted on Apr.26, 2011

You’ve heard Fayssoux McLean, even if you haven’t heard of her. Fayssoux’s beguiling voice was an integral element in some of the finest country music recordings of our time.
Fayssoux sang harmonies all over Emmylou Harris’ legendary early recordings, “Luxury Liner,” “Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town,” “Elite Hotel,” and “Pieces of the Sky,” and she sang duets with Emmylou on “Spanish is a Loving Tongue” and Green Rolling Hills.”  Turning the tables on history, that’s Emmylou Harris singing harmonies for Fayssoux. “Early” also features such talent as Ricky Skaggs, the Whites, David Ball, and the legendary pedal steel player Lloyd Green (The Byrds, Paul McCartney, Charley Pride, Don Williams, etc.). Also featured on nearly every track is sublime young guitarist Brandon Turner, Spartanburg’s latest gift to the world of music. Read more at http://redbeetrecords.com/fayssoux

They made their debut in 2001 with the concept album “Sands of Time” and then recorded a six song EP “Westminister Abbey.” The band spent several months in 2007 researching old history books and articles to tell the story of Jack the Ripper on “Ghosts of White Chapel.” The CD included a guest appearance from actress Ashley Laurence and was an instant favorite among Halloween convention fans. Come check out the original Shockopera lineup on stage for the first time since McBee’s return from several months working in France.

Dec 3rd 9pm Comedy Show, Katie Hughes Rubber and Glue Tour with special guests Justin Blackburn, Michael Robinette, Chris Weathers ($5 cover)

Posted on Nov.25, 2010

Katie Hughes is a perfect blend of smart and silly, making her a comics comic and a crowds favorite. Katie’s wild imagination, clever writing and energetic irreverence make her a force to be reckoned with on stage. Katie has been featured on Rooftop Comedy and Laugh your Asheville off Comedy Festival 2009 and 2010.  She won 3rd place at this years funniest damn comedians in the Carolinas at DSI Comedy Theater and plans to kick someone in the balls next year to take 1st.

Michael Robinette possesses a magnetic personality that makes him impossible to ignore. With his quirky observations and wide range of emotion and energy Michael is capable of connecting with any audience. He performs regularly throughout the southeast and has been featured in the Marshall Chiles and Friends showcase at the Laughing Skull in Atlanta, and joined the ranks of Atlanta’s favorite comics at the Dogwood Home Grown Comedy Binge. He has also showcased at the Village Lantern and at the Living Room in New York City. He has shared the stage with Margaret Cho, Marshall Chiles, Jarrod Harris, Andy Sanford, David Stone, T.J. Young, Joe Zimmerman, Katie Hughes, Carlos Valencia, and many more.

Justin Blackburn began laughing at himself around the age of six and has not looked back.
In collaboration with Kenny Norsworthy, Blackburn created a controversial stir with the US Government with their powerful novel Gifted Disabilties (2005). This novel caused quite an uproar in the underground world, especially with lead singer of the acclaimed Fat Possum Records’s band The Company, Brian Hannon, who published a collection of Blackburn and Norsworthy’s early poetry It’s Hard To Get There When You Are Already There, which led to Justin Blackburn being voted Upstate Poet Of The Year in The Beat Magazine in 2007.

Chris Weathers, Chris Weathers is an easily noticeable person with a baby’s brain. Something of a righteously indignant doofus, Chris provides an offbeat vibrance that works perfectly with his gleeful jokes. He was a finalist in the Rocky Top Comedy Contest and a finalist in your hearts. He has shared the stage with Margaret Cho, Kyle Kinane, and Rory Scovel, to name three. If he doesn’t leave you with a smile, then go home and get your shinebox.
