Aug 13th 8pm Southern Experience
Posted on Jul.19, 2011
Southern Experience is a new band dawning on the Carolina music scene. Drawing from a variety of musical experiences and influences this group is poised to make its mark. The band is producing very fresh and energetic original material with thoughtful and meaningful lyrics. The group’s original offerings as well as fresh takes on 70’s standards display flashes of everything from blues to progressive rock. The glue that holds it together is their common appreciation and love of classic southern rock. The boundless energy of lead guitarist and vocalist J.T. Fitch; the keyboards, guitar, harmonica, and vocals of Scott Sanders and the drums and percussion work of Jon Humphries drive this band. Veteran 70’s/80’s bassist Ron Humphries rounds out the lineup with solid melodic bass lines and years of experience. Southern Experience just completed a soon to be released EP appropriately titled Beginnings.

July 29th 8PM The Reverend Billy C. Wirtz, Up from Cocoa Beach FL headin to Bele Chere
Posted on Jul.17, 2011
Reverend Billy C. Wirtz is a recording artist whose material consists of irreverent comedy routines set to music. His humor is somewhat raunchy, if not offensive, and thus is not normally considered suitable for children. His material often mocks conservative politics and religion. From the moment he sits down at the piano and lights into his Southern old-time gospel and blues with a twist, the six-foot-five-inch, goateed, tattooed tongue-in-cheek “Rev” commands the stage and spreads the “gospel” like nobody’s business. With puns flying as fast as his fingers, the Rev plays masterly boogie-woogie and barrelhouse riffs while holding forth on subjects as diverse as W.W.E.D.? (What Would Elvis Do?), Mennonite Surf Parties, and dubious relationships between people you are terrified that you may actually know. While widely recognized as a humorist, music is his forte. In the early 80s, he shared a walk-up with the late blues legend Sunnyland Slim, learning to appreciate the Blues and to perform it with fervor. A recognized musicologist, Billy has written about music, legendary performers and life on the road for Musician, Keyboard and BluesWax. He is a regular contributor to the Charlotte Observer. Workshops on Blues and/or Gospel Music at festivals and universities have left students clamoring for more.

Sept 24th 8pm Shana Blake & Pivotal Soul
Posted on Jun.18, 2011
Pivotal Soul is an exciting new project from singer/songwriters Buzz Fawcett of Zanesville, Ohio, and Shana Blake of Charlotte, North Carolina. Their expressive melodies and poignant lyrics fuse coherently to create a sound that’s as smooth as honey, with a hint of R&B, funk, reggae, southern rock, gospel, country, jazz and the blues. The repertoire covers the gamut from emotionally-charged ballads to energetic, danceable grooves. Buzz and Shana met at a NC function in the summer of 2010, where they had been hired to perform with a menagerie of musicians from north and south. The encounter proved to be pivotal for both. They discovered an obvious similarity in their performance styles, as well as in the themes of their respective compositions and song selections. Two short months later, the universe saw fit to relocate Buzz to the Queen City and the artists immediately began building the foundation that would become Pivotal Soul. The band is backed by veteran guitarist Keith Shamel (Virgo Musik, Daily Soul), bassist Dave Eatman (Bellyful, Automatic Chi), and drummer/percussionist Scott Newell (Vonce, Justice League).

CD Release Party, Gaffney’s own Tracy Wyatt brings home South 85 July 22, 9pm
Posted on Jun.14, 2011
With roots deep in the Carolinas, South85 blends country, folk, southern rock, and bluegrass to give you a listening experience that you won’t soon forget. Driven by the original songwriting of Kathy Neal and the voice of Tracy Wyatt, South85 is in a classification all their own – radio worthy songs along with an atmosphere of a back-porch jam. The marked “cowgirl” attitude and lifestyle exemplified by both Tracy and Kathy is interwoven throughout songs of independence, celebration of the south, hope, and plain old fun. South85’s sound is influenced by southern rock legends like Marshall Tucker Band, the Black Crowes, cross-genre Americana artists Old Crowe Medicine Show, Gillian Welch, and the sweet southern classics such as Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn. The band may blend a rocking electric stratocaster with a banjo or ease an acoustic ballad with dobro and mandolin with their varied sounds and themes. CLICK HERE FOR THE FACEBOOK EVENT LINK.
